What is PayPal Access?
Paypal Access is a new solution which provides Single sign-on solution using PayPal account. A customer can login and checkout into your store using his PayPal account. Cool idea, isn’t it?
How does it help a Customer?
- He doesn’t have to worry about creating and managing multiple accounts at different stores. He can just Login with PayPal.
- He doesn’t have to send his data to the store. He feels more secure and confident.

Thanks Ankush (PayPal Access Team) for providing more information. It wasn’t sure that PayPal provides contact information of users to Retailers/Merchants (Read Is PayPal Access a bad idea) but now it’s clear.

There have been social identity solutions but no real commerce identity solution so far. PayPal Access is the first commerce identity solution which is more geared towards shopping activity.

I am part of the PayPal Access team and would like to provide some clarification. The statement that “retailers will only receive the Shipping Address” is incorrect. When you enable PayPal Access extension on your Magento Go store you will get the following set of information BUT of course only if the user provides consent: Name, Email Address, Phone. You can try logging on to the demo store https://www.shopgecko.com to see what the users will see.
There are other ways of integrating with PayPal Access where you can have more control on the attributes that you would like to request. ( https://www.x.com/developers/x.commerce/products/paypal-access#getStart )
